About Positron Today
Let's be honest - the news is pretty relentless. War, crisis, outrage, repeat. And I get it: bad news sells, bad news clicks, bad news spreads. It's not a conspiracy, it's just how human attention works. But it means that a whole lot of genuinely good things happening in the world just... get lost.
That frustrated me for years. So I decided to do something about it - which is exactly why this site exists.
Positron Today is a personal curation of positive, uplifting, and occasionally funny news from sources I trust. Every article here was hand-picked because it made me feel a little better about the world. I summarise each one in my own words, add a bit of personal take where it fits, and link straight back to the original so you can read the full story.
It's available in Dutch, French and English - because good news should cross borders just as easily as bad news does.
Nothing here is paid for, sponsored, or algorithmically optimised. Just one Belgian with a stubborn belief that there is plenty worth celebrating - if you know where to look.
Over Positron Today
Laten we eerlijk zijn - het nieuws is behoorlijk meedogenloos. Oorlog, crisis, verontwaardiging, herhaling. En ik begrijp het: slecht nieuws verkoopt, slecht nieuws krijgt klikken, slecht nieuws verspreidt zich. Het is geen samenzwering, het is gewoon hoe menselijke aandacht werkt. Maar het betekent wel dat een heleboel echt goede dingen die in de wereld gebeuren gewoon... verloren gaan.
Dat frustreerde me al jaren. Dus besloot ik er iets aan te doen - en dat is precies waarom deze site bestaat.
Positron Today is een persoonlijke selectie van positief, inspirerend en soms grappig nieuws uit bronnen die ik vertrouw. Elk artikel hier werd met de hand gekozen omdat het me een beetje beter deed voelen over de wereld. Ik vat elk artikel samen in mijn eigen woorden, voeg een persoonlijke noot toe waar dat past, en link rechtstreeks terug naar het origineel zodat je het volledige verhaal kan lezen.
De site is beschikbaar in het Nederlands, Frans en Engels - want goed nieuws verdient het om grenzen net zo makkelijk te passeren als slecht nieuws.
Niets hier is betaald, gesponsord of algoritmisch geoptimaliseerd. Gewoon een Belg met de hardnekkige overtuiging dat er genoeg te vieren valt - als je weet waar je moet kijken.

Soyons honnêtes - l'actualité est assez implacable. Guerre, crise, indignation, répétition. Et je comprends : les mauvaises nouvelles se vendent, font cliquer, se répandent. Ce n'est pas un complot, c'est simplement ainsi que fonctionne l'attention humaine. Mais cela signifie que beaucoup de choses vraiment positives qui se passent dans le monde... se perdent tout simplement.
Cela m'a frustré pendant des années. Alors j'ai décidé de faire quelque chose - et c'est exactement pour ça que ce site existe.
Positron Today est une curation personnelle d'actualités positives, inspirantes et parfois drôles, issues de sources en lesquelles j'ai confiance. Chaque article a été choisi à la main parce qu'il m'a donné le sentiment que le monde allait un peu mieux. Je résume chaque article dans mes propres mots, j'ajoute une touche personnelle quand c'est pertinent, et je renvoie directement à l'original pour que vous puissiez lire l'histoire complète.
Le site est disponible en néerlandais, français et anglais - parce que les bonnes nouvelles méritent de franchir les frontières aussi facilement que les mauvaises.
Rien ici n'est payé, sponsorisé ou optimisé algorithmiquement. Juste un Belge avec la conviction tenace qu'il y a beaucoup à célébrer - si on sait où chercher.
What this site is for
Three things, mostly. To show that good news is not rare, just badly distributed - it happens every single day, if somebody bothers to go looking for it. To make it easy to find and easy to share, in three languages, with no ads, no algorithm and no outrage attached. And to hand you straight back to the journalists who did the actual reporting, because this is meant to be a signpost, not a destination. The longer version of that thinking - why negativity bias exists, what algorithms do with it, and hard numbers on how rare good news really turns out to be - is written up in the editorials.
Vooral drie dingen. Aantonen dat goed nieuws niet zeldzaam is, maar slecht verdeeld - het gebeurt elke dag, als iemand de moeite doet om te zoeken. Het makkelijk vindbaar en makkelijk deelbaar maken, in drie talen, zonder advertenties, zonder algoritme en zonder verontwaardiging. En je meteen doorsturen naar de journalisten die het echte werk deden, want dit is bedoeld als wegwijzer, niet als eindbestemming. De langere versie van die redenering - waarom negativiteitsbias bestaat, wat algoritmes ermee doen, en harde cijfers over hoe zeldzaam goed nieuws werkelijk blijkt te zijn - staat uitgeschreven in de columns.
À trois choses, surtout. Montrer que les bonnes nouvelles ne sont pas rares, mais mal réparties - il s'en produit tous les jours, pour peu que quelqu'un prenne la peine de les chercher. Les rendre faciles à trouver et faciles à partager, en trois langues, sans publicité, sans algorithme et sans indignation. Et renvoyer directement vers les journalistes qui ont fait le vrai travail, car ceci est un panneau indicateur, pas une destination. La version longue de ce raisonnement - pourquoi le biais de négativité existe, ce que les algorithmes en font, et des chiffres concrets sur la rareté réelle des bonnes nouvelles - se trouve dans les éditoriaux.
Why only good news?
This is the objection I hear most often, and it deserves a straight answer: a site that shows only the good stuff is not an honest picture of the world, and pretending everything is fine helps nobody. I agree with that, sincerely. Climate, conflict, inequality, the slow grinding problems that never make a satisfying headline - those stories matter enormously, and nobody should be looking away from them.
But that is not the trade this site asks you to make. The other half of the picture is already everywhere. Every front page, every news app, every feed, every push notification is already tuned to deliver the bad news - at volume, for free, whether or not anyone asked for it. There is no shortage of it, and building a separate website to add to that pile would be a strange use of anybody's time. What is genuinely hard to find is the rest, and that is the gap this site fills. Positron Today is one-sided on purpose: a counterweight, not a replacement. Read it next to your usual news, not instead of it. Dit is het bezwaar dat ik het vaakst hoor, en het verdient een eerlijk antwoord: een site die alleen het goede toont, geeft geen eerlijk beeld van de wereld, en doen alsof alles in orde is helpt niemand vooruit. Daar ben ik het oprecht mee eens. Klimaat, conflict, ongelijkheid, de traag malende problemen die nooit een bevredigende kop opleveren - die verhalen doen er enorm toe, en niemand zou daarvan mogen wegkijken.
Maar dat is niet de ruil die deze site vraagt. De andere helft van het beeld is al overal. Elke voorpagina, elke nieuws-app, elke feed, elke pushmelding is al afgestemd op het brengen van slecht nieuws - in volume, gratis, of erom gevraagd is of niet. Daar is geen tekort aan, en nog een website bouwen om die stapel groter te maken zou een vreemde tijdsbesteding zijn. Wat wél moeilijk te vinden is, is de rest, en dat is het gat dat deze site vult. Positron Today is bewust eenzijdig: een tegengewicht, geen vervanging. Lees het naast je gewone nieuws, niet in de plaats daarvan. C'est l'objection que j'entends le plus souvent, et elle mérite une réponse franche : un site qui ne montre que le bon côté ne donne pas une image honnête du monde, et faire comme si tout allait bien n'aide personne. Je suis sincèrement d'accord. Le climat, les conflits, les inégalités, les problèmes lents qui ne donnent jamais un titre satisfaisant - ces sujets comptent énormément, et personne ne devrait détourner le regard.
Mais ce n'est pas l'échange que ce site propose. L'autre moitié du tableau est déjà partout. Chaque une, chaque application d'actualité, chaque fil, chaque notification est déjà réglée pour livrer les mauvaises nouvelles - en quantité, gratuitement, que quelqu'un l'ait demandé ou non. Il n'y en a aucune pénurie, et construire un site de plus pour grossir la pile serait un curieux emploi du temps. Ce qui est vraiment difficile à trouver, c'est le reste, et c'est précisément ce manque que ce site comble. Positron Today est volontairement partial : un contrepoids, pas un remplacement. À lire à côté de vos actualités habituelles, pas à leur place. Why "Positron"?
A positron is the antimatter counterpart of an electron - identical in every way, except that it carries a positive charge. It is one of the most fundamental particles in the universe, described by physics, confirmed by experiment, and present all around us - in the air, in our bodies, in the cosmos. And yet most people never think about it. It is always there, doing its quiet work, largely invisible to everyday life.
That felt like exactly the right metaphor for this site. Good things are happening in the world all the time - real, verified, meaningful things. They are not rare. They are not manufactured. They are as fundamental and as real as anything else going on. They just don't get the attention they deserve. They are the positrons of the news cycle: always present, rarely seen.
So: Positron Today. Positive charge. Fundamental physics. Good news that was always there - you just needed somewhere to look for it.
Een positron is het antideeltje van een elektron - in alle opzichten identiek, behalve dat het een positieve lading draagt. Het is een van de meest fundamentele deeltjes in het universum, beschreven door de natuurkunde, bevestigd door experimenten, en overal om ons heen aanwezig - in de lucht, in ons lichaam, in de kosmos. En toch staat de meeste mensen er nooit bij stil. Het is er altijd, doet zijn stille werk, grotendeels onzichtbaar in het dagelijks leven.
Dat leek me precies de juiste metafoor voor deze site. Er gebeuren voortdurend goede dingen in de wereld - echte, verificeerbare, betekenisvolle dingen. Ze zijn niet zeldzaam. Ze zijn niet verzonnen. Ze zijn net zo fundamenteel en net zo echt als al het andere dat gaande is. Ze krijgen alleen niet de aandacht die ze verdienen. Ze zijn de positronen van de nieuwscyclus: altijd aanwezig, zelden gezien.
Dus: Positron Today. Positieve lading. Fundamentele natuurkunde. Goed nieuws dat er altijd al was - je had alleen een plek nodig om het te zoeken.
Un positron est la contrepartie antimatière de l'électron - identique à tous points de vue, sauf qu'il porte une charge positive. C'est l'une des particules les plus fondamentales de l'univers, décrite par la physique, confirmée par l'expérience, et présente partout autour de nous - dans l'air, dans notre corps, dans le cosmos. Et pourtant, la plupart des gens n'y pensent jamais. Il est toujours là, faisant son travail discret, largement invisible dans la vie quotidienne.
Cela m'a semblé être exactement la bonne métaphore pour ce site. De bonnes choses se produisent dans le monde en permanence - des choses réelles, vérifiées, significatives. Elles ne sont pas rares. Elles ne sont pas fabriquées. Elles sont aussi fondamentales et aussi réelles que tout le reste. Elles ne reçoivent tout simplement pas l'attention qu'elles méritent. Ce sont les positrons du cycle de l'actualité : toujours présents, rarement vus.
Alors : Positron Today. Charge positive. Physique fondamentale. De bonnes nouvelles qui ont toujours été là - il vous fallait juste un endroit où les chercher.
A personal, not-for-profit initiative
Positron Today is run by a single person — me, Rik Van Bruggen, based in Belgium. It is not a company, not a legal entity, not a media outlet, and not a commercial venture in any form. There are no ads on this site. There are no sponsors. There is no newsletter pitch, no paywall, no affiliate links, no tracking for any commercial purpose. Nothing here is optimised to generate money, influence, or engagement. If you see something that looks like an ad, you're looking at a bug — please let me know.
The audience I had in mind when I built this is small and personal: my family, my friends, my wider social network. People I wanted to be able to share good news with, in a form that feels unhurried, uncynical, and easy to read in three languages. I built it because I couldn't find anything quite like it — not because I wanted to start something commercial.
Promoting the source, not replacing it
Every article on this site points back — clearly and directly — to the original publisher. The card on the homepage opens the original when clicked. Every detail page carries a prominent "Read the original article ↗" button. The whole purpose of this site is to be a better discovery layer for journalism that already exists, not a replacement for it. The journalists, editors, photographers, and publications doing the actual reporting deserve the credit, the traffic, and the attention — that is the entire reason for this project to exist. I would rather send you to the original than keep you here.
What about copyright?
I'm careful about this. The summaries on this site are newly written — paraphrased, condensed, translated — not copied from the source. I rely on standard conventions of commentary, curation and quotation, with attribution and a direct link to the source. Source metadata (publication name, publication date, original URL) is preserved on every single article.
If you run a publication whose article appears here and you would rather it did not, please get in touch via the Contact page. I will remove it without argument — this site exists to amplify good journalism, not to create friction for the people producing it.

Positron Today wordt beheerd door één persoon — mij, Rik Van Bruggen, woonachtig in België. Het is geen bedrijf, geen rechtspersoon, geen mediabedrijf en in geen enkele vorm een commerciële onderneming. Er zijn geen advertenties op deze site. Er zijn geen sponsors. Er is geen nieuwsbriefaanbieding, geen betaalmuur, geen affiliate-links, geen tracking voor enig commercieel doel. Niets hier is geoptimaliseerd om geld, invloed of engagement te genereren. Zie je toch iets wat op een advertentie lijkt, dan kijk je naar een bug — laat het me even weten.
Het publiek dat ik voor ogen had toen ik dit bouwde, is klein en persoonlijk: mijn familie, mijn vrienden, mijn bredere sociale netwerk. Mensen met wie ik goed nieuws wilde kunnen delen, in een vorm die ongehaast en oncynisch aanvoelt en die makkelijk te lezen is in drie talen. Ik bouwde het omdat ik niets vergelijkbaars kon vinden — niet omdat ik iets commercieels wilde starten.
De bron promoten, niet vervangen
Elk artikel op deze site verwijst duidelijk en rechtstreeks terug naar de oorspronkelijke uitgever. De kaart op de homepage opent bij een klik het origineel. Elke detailpagina bevat een duidelijke "Lees het originele artikel ↗"-knop. Het hele doel van deze site is om een betere ontdekkingslaag te zijn voor journalistiek die al bestaat, niet om die te vervangen. De journalisten, redacteurs, fotografen en uitgevers die het echte werk doen, verdienen de erkenning, het verkeer en de aandacht — dat is de enige reden waarom dit project bestaat. Ik stuur je liever door naar het origineel dan dat ik je hier houd.
En het auteursrecht?
Daar ben ik zorgvuldig mee. De samenvattingen op deze site zijn nieuw geschreven — geparafraseerd, ingekort, vertaald — en niet gekopieerd van de bron. Ik hanteer hiervoor de gebruikelijke conventies van commentaar, curatie en het citaatrecht, met vermelding van de bron en een directe link naar het origineel. Metadata van de bron (naam van het medium, publicatiedatum, originele URL) blijven bij elk artikel bewaard.
Als je een publicatie runt waarvan hier een artikel verschijnt en je hebt dat liever niet, neem dan contact op via de Contact-pagina. Ik haal het zonder discussie weg — deze site bestaat om goede journalistiek te versterken, niet om wrijving te creëren voor wie ze maakt.

Je l'ai construit parce que je ne trouvais rien d'équivalent — pas parce que je voulais lancer quelque chose de commercial.

Et les droits d'auteur ?
Je suis attentif à ce point. Les résumés sur ce site sont écrits à nouveau — paraphrasés, condensés, traduits — pas copiés depuis la source. Je m'appuie sur les conventions habituelles du commentaire, de la curation et du droit de citation, avec attribution et un lien direct vers la source. Les métadonnées de la source (nom du média, date de publication, URL originale) sont conservées pour chaque article.
