Shipping on rivers packs a surprisingly large climate punch

So, it turns out that shipping on rivers is a bigger climate issue than we thought! A recent study found that boats on inland waterways contributed nearly 25% of carbon dioxide emissions from shipping in 2022, despite these waterways being less than 1% of the world's navigable waters. This is particularly significant for busy rivers like China's Yangtze, which alone accounted for a hefty portion of emissions. Now, this growing traffic on rivers could actually be an opportunity for us to cut emissions and make a positive change.
