BMI can be misleading. Doctors point to a simple measurement that says much more

So, it turns out that BMI might not be the best way to assess obesity. Researchers found that a simple waist measurement can provide more accurate information about body fat and health risks. In fact, relying solely on BMI detected only about half of those with excess fat. This suggests that measuring waist circumference could be a much more effective tool for identifying obesity and its associated health risks.
