So, back in 1959, the world was introduced to the NS Savannah, the first nuclear-powered merchant ship, and it was quite a bold move! Designed by Jack Heaney, this ship aimed to showcase the peaceful uses of nuclear technology amidst fears from the atomic age. Unfortunately, despite its innovative design, no other nuclear merchant ships have followed in its wake due to economic concerns and public mistrust. But with the rising costs of oil and environmental concerns, the idea of nuclear-powered ships might just be making a comeback!
