Astronomers discover the youngest exoplanet ever found

I love stories that make us rethink how our universe actually works. Astronomers just confirmed the discovery of Elias 2-24b, a massive exoplanet that is less than one million years old - making it by far the youngest planet ever directly observed. It sits about 450 light-years away from Earth and is already up to four times the mass of Jupiter. Now, standard models say a giant planet this far out from its star should take way longer than a million years to form. So: it looks like planetary birth happens much faster than we ever imagined, and that is just super exciting.
