So, the African Union is launching the Africa Credit Rating Agency in Mauritius, bringing an assessment perspective rooted in African data and expertise. The independent agency will rate governments, financial institutions and businesses, with the aim of helping them access capital markets and giving investors more context on local economies. It arrives as debt-service costs rise, while 23 African economies still lack a rating from the three major global agencies. And here's the thing: the AU hopes broader coverage and greater market transparency will help build investor confidence across the continent.
