After field-school training, Badakizi Yawa uses pheromone and sticky traps to monitor pests, cutting applications on her eight hectares from seven or eight to three or four. NSCT’s regenerative approach combines practices such as zero tillage, crop rotation, organic soil amendments and targeted pest control, with average yields reportedly rising from 570 kilograms per hectare to more than one tonne. Results vary and the contribution of these methods is not yet clear, but 40 farmer field schools are helping growers test techniques, share know-how and build more resilient farms.
