Mathematicians uncover infinitely many Ramanujan equations

So, more than a century after Ramanujan sent his remarkable formulas to mathematicians, new work has revealed that his famous Rogers-Ramanujan identities are part of a much bigger picture. Yifeng Huang and collaborators showed that the identities correspond to a trefoil knot, one of the simplest mathematical knots. Their geometric approach also points to infinitely many previously unknown identities linked to related knots. It’s a delightful surprise: a historic puzzle in number theory turns out to have unexpected connections to knot theory.
