Scientists detect signals at the smallest scale ever explored

Scientists have detected a beauty quark interacting with other tiny particles at an astonishingly small scale: a billion-trillionth of a metre. Studying this particle’s brief dance may help researchers test whether dark matter influences how particles behave, although dark matter itself has not been detected. The team says more data could open the door to exploring this “zeptoverse” and perhaps discovering new particles. The breakthrough comes as researchers also voice concern about UK funding cuts that could limit opportunities and future work at CERN.
