In 1971, an astronaut brought seeds to space. After returning to Earth, he planted them and got surprising results.

So, back in 1971, astronaut Stuart Roosa took tree seeds with him on the Apollo 14 mission to see if they would grow differently in space. After a bit of a mishap with the seeds bursting during decontamination, some were eventually planted in Mississippi and California. Amazingly, they germinated successfully and were planted across 40 states, even at the White House! The 'Moon Trees' showed no significant differences from their Earth-bound counterparts, but what a fascinating experiment it was!
