Somalia races to save Radio Mogadishu’s fading archive

In Mogadishu, a dedicated team is working tirelessly to digitize the fading archives of Radio Mogadishu, which hold a treasure trove of Somali history. With around 400,000 hours of broadcasts dating back to the 1950s, these tapes are crucial for preserving the country's cultural heritage. Archivist Abdiqadir Geedi Robleh expresses his passion for this project, emphasizing the importance of making this archive accessible to the public. The initiative has gained momentum with support from UNESCO, aiming to register these invaluable recordings as part of the Memory of the World programme.
