'Dead' coral reef found alive and thriving off West Africa

Can you believe it? A coral reef thought to be dead for nearly 60 years off the coast of Benin has been rediscovered, and it's bursting with life! Led by oceanographer Gérard Zinzindohoué, the team used sonar and underwater drones to explore this hidden gem, revealing a vibrant ecosystem at depths of about 165 feet. They identified eight types of coral and various fish species, suggesting that this reef might not be an isolated case but part of a much larger system. It's a reminder of how much we still have to learn about our oceans!
