Zoo plucks 21 snails from extinction and returns hundreds to pristine Atlantic island

I’m thrilled to share that Chester Zoo has successfully rescued a tiny species of snail from the brink of extinction! They started with just 21 snails, which were so rare they could fit in a petri dish. Thanks to a dedicated breeding program, over 300 descendants have now been returned to their native habitat on Desertas Island. This incredible effort not only helps the snails but also supports the restoration of the island's fragile ecosystem.
