Humanity’s 3rd visit to Mercury kicks off with the successful arrival of BepiColombo mission

On September 3rd, the European Space Agency celebrated the successful arrival of its BepiColombo mission to Mercury, marking a historic milestone as the third spacecraft to visit this intriguing planet. It took over 8 years to reach Mercury, navigating through complex gravitational forces with the help of nine flybys of other planets. The mission's first phase was completed with cheers from mission control in Germany, as the Mercury Transfer Module successfully separated from the spacecraft. This achievement sets the stage for groundbreaking studies of Mercury's surface and environment, with full science operations beginning in April 2027.
