Low vitamin D linked to more pain after breast cancer surgery

So here's something really interesting - researchers have discovered that breast cancer patients with low vitamin D levels experience significantly more pain after surgery and need more opioid painkillers to manage it. In a study of 184 patients in Egypt, those with vitamin D deficiency were three times more likely to report moderate to severe pain in the first 24 hours after a mastectomy compared to patients with adequate levels. The deficient group also used substantially more tramadol - a powerful painkiller - and experienced more nausea as a side effect. This finding suggests that vitamin D might play an important role in how our bodies process pain, possibly through its effects on inflammation and the immune system, which could mean pre-surgery supplementation might really help these patients.
