Cities and countryside are intimately linked - green initiatives must recognize that

I find this really eye-opening - cities are drawing massive resources from rural areas, yet we treat these regions as disposable hinterlands. The problem is that while urbanization brings 67% of the world's population to cities by 2050, the countryside is being hollowed out, with abandoned lands, degraded rangelands, and vanishing communities left behind. What strikes me most is that urban green spaces alone won't fix this - we need to see cities and their rural surroundings as one interconnected system. So the answer is combining geospatial monitoring, landscape engineering, and watershed planning to ensure both urban and rural areas can thrive together.
