Israel and Morocco to open embassies as diplomatic ties deepen

Israel and Morocco are taking their diplomatic relationship to a new level by upgrading their respective liaison offices to full embassies, with ambassadors to be appointed soon. The announcement came from a meeting in New York between Israeli Foreign Minister Gidéon Saar and his Moroccan counterpart Nasser Bourita, with US support. Beyond the embassy upgrades, the two countries are planning economic agreements and expanded direct flights before the end of 2026. The move builds on their 2020 normalization under the Abraham Accords, though it faces some domestic pressure in Morocco following the Gaza conflict.
