Like a Disney movie: three wild dog brothers make Africa's longest journey

Three endangered African wild dog brothers just made history by travelling over 2,500 miles across Zambia in eight months - the longest recorded journey of any mammal on the continent. Starting from Kafue national park in the west and ending in the Luangwa valley in the east, these young males were dispersing to find new territory and mates, navigating through mines, hunters' snares, and human-dominated landscapes to survive. Their incredible journey - farther than the famous Serengeti migration - shows that natural connections between Africa's wildlife areas still exist, even though they've become increasingly dangerous. Researchers say this discovery reinforces how vital it is to protect connected landscapes rather than relying only on fenced protected areas, giving hope to a species where only about 6,600 adults remain across 39 populations.
