New Brunswick utility secures wood pellet supply to transition away from coal power

So here's what's exciting - New Brunswick's NB Power has just signed supply agreements with Canadian companies to provide sustainably sourced wood and hemp pellets, which is a huge step for the Belledune Generating Station. And here's the thing: this deal essentially secures the majority of the biomass fuel the plant will need once it stops burning coal. Now that these supply agreements are locked in, the utility can finally move ahead with equipment upgrades and prepare the station for long-term renewable operation. This transition has been nine years in the making, with the goal to phase out coal by 2030, and executives say they're moving from planning straight into action.
