New research debunks the myth: cork-sealed wine isn't necessarily better than screw-cap wine

A groundbreaking study from the Université de Bourgogne has finally mapped out exactly what happens when cork meets wine and how oxygen penetrates a bottle - a process that can take months or even years. Here's the thing: for young, fruity wines that you're planning to drink quickly, a screw cap makes virtually no difference because the external oxygen effect hasn't even kicked in yet. The research reveals that cork actually releases its own oxygen initially, then later absorbs it, and it's only after considerable time that outside air slowly enters through the bottle neck. So the bottom line is simple - since 80-90% of wine sold is meant to be consumed within a year, most supermarket wines are perfectly fine under a screw cap.
