Why Arctic sea ice moves in mysterious ways - scientists found the answer

Individual pieces of ice, called floes, are constantly bumping into each other, and these collisions explain patterns that have puzzled scientists for years. The team created a computer model treating the ice floes like grains in a silo, and it successfully matched real observations from the Fram Strait between Greenland and Svalbard. This discovery could eventually help climate scientists improve their forecasts of how sea ice moves as the Arctic continues to warm.
