Health workers in the Democratic Republic of the Congo have started receiving the Ervebo vaccine in what many see as a crucial step against the world's fastest-growing Ebola outbreak. Some 50,000 frontline staff will receive the jab, which was originally developed for a different Ebola strain, with 20,000 enrolled in a one-year clinical trial to monitor its effectiveness. The rollout began in Bunia, the epicentre of this devastating outbreak in Ituri province, and will expand to North Kivu where cases are rising sharply. So here's the thing - while early data suggests the vaccine could offer some protection against the current Bundibugyo strain, there's still uncertainty, and health officials acknowledge we don't yet know how effective it will be.Gezondheidswerkers in de Democratische Republiek Congo zijn begonnen met het ontvangen van het Ervebo-vaccin in wat veel mensen zien als een cruciale stap tegen de snelst groeiende Ebola-uitbraak ter wereld.
