New chemical wipes out 95% of termites without harming humans

So researchers at UC Riverside have discovered something really clever - they found a biological weakness in drywood termites that these hidden pests simply cannot escape. The chemical bistrifluron works by interfering with chitin production, which means termites can't build new exoskeletons when they molt, and that's something they have to do about seven times in their lives. In lab tests, this treatment achieved 95.7 percent mortality when termites could choose between treated and untreated wood, and nearly 99 percent when they were continuously exposed to it. And here's what makes me excited - it's way more environmentally friendly than traditional treatments and completely harmless to humans because it targets a biological system insects have but mammals don't.
