REM sleep paradox: Dreaming may drain the brain’s energy even as fuel supply rises

I find it fascinating that during REM sleep, when we dream, the brain's fuel supply actually goes up but the energy neurons use drops. So: the brain is super active, yet its energy molecule levels fall, which is quite the paradox! Researchers at Tohoku University watched mice brains in real time and discovered this unusual energy dance. It seems dreaming might be more tiring than we thought because the brain juggles energy in a complex way during this phase.
