After a near-fatal fall on Everest, he built a team that has helped save 400 soldiers

After a near-fatal fall into a crevasse on Everest, climber Hemant Sachdev was saved by a friend with the right rescue skills. That experience stayed with him, and in 2016 he founded Tiranga Mountain Rescue, India’s first professional mountain and avalanche rescue organisation. Its 16 specialist teams now work in harsh, avalanche-prone regions, mobilising within minutes to support soldiers and emergency agencies. And here’s the thing: their efforts have helped save around 400 Indian soldiers.
