AI helps restore gaps in ancient Greek texts

So, a new AI called Apollo Restore can help fill gaps in ancient Greek papyrus texts, including some larger gaps that human scholars often approach cautiously. Developed by papyrologist Anna Dolganov, computer scientist David Smith and AI partners, it uses training data whose origins are known. More than a million papyri remain largely unread, and fewer than 10 percent have been studied and published after around 150 years of research. The tool could help scholars make progress on this remarkable archive while supporting, rather than replacing, their expertise.
