Genome accessibility reveals disease risks gene expression can miss

Many genetic changes linked to disease affect how strongly genes are switched on, rather than changing the genes themselves. Researchers analysed gene activity and genome accessibility together in 10 million immune cells from 1,108 people. They connected disease-associated changes in accessibility with gene expression, revealing regulatory effects that gene activity alone can miss. So, this large-scale study offers a richer view of how genetic variation may influence disease.
