Kerala farmer turns dry leaves into a five-foot potato tower

So: Kerala farmer C V Varghese gives dry leaves a second life by packing them into five-foot mesh towers to grow potatoes and other vegetables. He layers the leaves with hay, cow and goat dung, neem cake and organic soil mix, placing potato sprouts at different heights as the tower fills. A perforated pipe in the centre helps water reach the layers, and one tower can hold up to 20 potato sprouts. Varghese has also grown crops such as tomatoes and chillies in the same towers, making this a clever option for gardeners with limited space.
