Norway’s glaciers reveal 48 ancient arrows

So, after two decades of exploring Norway’s glaciers, the Secrets of the Ice team has recovered 48 arrowheads and shafts from different periods. Some are thousands of years old, including a slate arrowhead that may date back 6,000 years and a mussel-shell arrowhead found with its wooden shaft. The project has uncovered more than 5,000 artifacts at 73 archaeological sites, including the world’s oldest known ski. Because ice can preserve wood and other materials remarkably well, these discoveries offer a remarkable glimpse into life in the distant past.
