Australia creates three new national parks for wildlife

More than 250 square miles of forest in central Victoria are now protected in three new national parks: Mount Buangor, Pyrenees, and Wombat-Lerderderg. Together, they safeguard hundreds of rare and threatened species, including platypuses, greater gliders, powerful owls, and rare plants. The parks are the region’s first substantial new national parks in 15 years, following years of campaigning and ecological research by local groups. Parks Victoria will work with Traditional Owners and communities on plans to care for these forests and their wildlife.
