Scientists create a lightsaber-like laser antenna

Researchers have demonstrated a radio antenna made from a laser-generated beam of plasma, rather than a conventional metal structure. A contactless feed transfers energy to the plasma, allowing it to transmit radio waves, and the team demonstrated transmission at 30 megahertz. Because the beam’s length can be adjusted, this approach could make antennas easier to adapt for different frequencies without complex mechanical parts. It’s an exciting concept with potential uses in wireless communications, radar, satellites, and space exploration.
