Here’s an encouraging idea from Glen Eden in Auckland: residents moving into Visionwest’s new 24-apartment social housing development will be able to book and use two electric cars, included with subsidised rent. The trial aims to ease transport costs while making low-emissions travel easier, with bus and train stations nearby. Visionwest hopes residents may eventually manage without owning a car, and they’ll also have access to practical, wraparound support. The development is the first stage of its Village of Hope and comes as more than 1,100 people wait for public housing in West Auckland.
