World's oldest shipwreck found off the coast of Turkey

Archaeologists have discovered a shipwreck off Turkey’s Kekova Island that they date to between 4,400 and 4,700 years ago, around the time the Great Pyramid was being built. Though its wooden structure has vanished, the seabed still holds more than 30 ceramic storage pots and three stone anchors. Some pots contain a surprising amount of residue, which researchers are studying to find out whether it was olive oil, wine, tree resin or something else. The cargo is also offering fresh clues about ancient Mediterranean trade, with the vessel thought to have been travelling towards Troy or Crete.
