A 31-year-old mathematical challenge is finally solved

So, after three decades, researchers have proved the Kannan-Lovász-Simonovits conjecture, a landmark problem in high-dimensional geometry and probability. The result shows that, for a broad family of probability distributions, simple flat cuts are almost as effective as cuts of any shape, with a bound that does not grow with dimension. That insight could strengthen the foundations of random-walk sampling and inform statistics, optimization, algorithms, and computer science. And here's the thing: human researchers guided AI systems through the search, while independent experts validated the breakthrough and its proof was formally checked.
