A distant space ‘hamburger’ hides a baby gas giant

So, Gomez’s Hamburger is much more than a cosmic fast-food lookalike - it’s a vast disk of gas and dust around a young star, about 453 light-years away. Its nearly edge-on view gives astronomers an unusually clear look at the disk’s layers, including lighter gases above and heavier sulfur-bearing molecules below. Researchers also spotted uneven dust and gas that may point to a cosmic disturbance and winds from the star. At nearly 93 billion miles wide, this enormous disk could eventually give rise to several planets, including gas giants.
