Scientists find a simple, low-energy way to recycle acrylic glass

So, researchers at ETH Zurich have found a practical way to break acrylic glass, also known as Plexiglas, almost entirely back into its original building blocks. Using one inexpensive chemical and no solvents, the process recovers up to 98% of the material as pure building blocks, at just over 200°C. Even dyed or impure acrylic can become material good enough for products of the same quality as new plastic. And here's the exciting part: the method can work with existing equipment, making it easier for companies to turn more plastic waste into valuable new goods.
