Polish detectors measure radiation near the moon - surprising results

I find this a fascinating step towards safer crewed trips beyond Earth's protective magnetic field. In the MARE experiment, more than 10,000 detectors inside the Orion capsule measured radiation across two human-body models. The dose near the Moon was higher than in Earth orbit, but lower than researchers expected, possibly because low-energy protons trapped in Earth's Van Allen belts are absent there. Polish-made crystal detectors helped capture the results, which can guide protection for future astronauts.
