Jupiter’s invisible shield is more complex than Earth’s

So, Juno has revealed that Jupiter slows the solar wind with a more intricate magnetic shield than Earth’s. Researchers found that multiple frequencies in Jupiter’s plasma waves help heat and slow more incoming particles. They also spotted smaller shock regions, called shocklets, that can weaken the solar wind before it reaches the planet’s main bow shock. These findings offer a fresh way to explore how shock waves work, including those produced by exploding stars.
