Nature-inspired filter keeps microplastics out of the Atlantic

So: Princeton alumni have developed a large-scale wastewater filter inspired by water-repellent plants, which attract and capture microplastic particles. The device is now being tested in Atlantic City through a two-year pilot with the Atlantic County Utilities Authority. Lab tests found that a prototype removed 98% of microplastics, and the trial will see how well that performance carries over at commercial scale. The captured particles can then be collected and sent for recycling, offering an encouraging new way to protect the ocean.
