Aloe found in an ancient mummy's skull

Researchers at Marburg University have detected molecular traces of aloe-associated plant material in a 2,700-year-old Egyptian mummy skull. It also sheds new light on Mumia, a medieval remedy made from powdered mummies that may have originated from a mistranslation confusing mummy remains with a dark medicinal pitch. Aloe appeared in only two of the 24 objects studied, so researchers are keen to examine more historical materials and learn how its use changed over time.
