An X-ray stopwatch measures just-attosecond durations

So: researchers have accurately measured hard X-ray pulses lasting just 170 attoseconds. That’s an exceptionally brief flash of light, captured with an optical system designed for precision timing. And here’s the exciting part: the system can also act as a stopwatch for tracking the rapid motion of electrons inside atoms and molecules. This could open new ways to explore some of nature’s fastest processes.
