Fossil feet may be misleading scientists about human evolution

New research is shaking up our understanding of the last common ancestor of humans and chimpanzees, suggesting it was likely a tree climber. This study challenges the idea that only certain foot structures are suitable for vertical climbing. By observing wild sooty mangabey monkeys, researchers found surprising flexibility in their feet, allowing them to climb like modern apes. This could mean that our ancestor might have had a monkey-like foot yet still been quite adept at climbing, which adds a fascinating twist to the story of human evolution.
