AI discovers overlooked Ozempic side effects by analyzing hundreds of thousands of Reddit posts

Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania used artificial intelligence to analyze over 400,000 Reddit posts from nearly 70,000 users, uncovering side effects of popular GLP-1 drugs like semaglutide and tirzepatide that may not show up clearly in traditional clinical trials. Two areas stood out as deserving closer attention - reproductive symptoms like menstrual irregularities and temperature-related issues such as chills and hot flashes. While the study doesn't prove these drugs caused the symptoms, it demonstrates how real patient conversations online can reveal signals worth investigating further. This approach complements traditional clinical research by capturing experiences patients discuss with each other but rarely report to doctors or regulators.
