Inspired by the devastating Sri Lanka Easter bombings of 2019, Dutch police researcher Mijke van den Hurk set out to understand how ordinary people become radicalized - not by looking at single factors like poverty, but by examining how multiple mechanisms interact within their environment. She developed an innovative agent-based AI simulation model, similar to the video game The Sims, where hundreds of virtual agents react to each other on individual, social, and ideological levels.
