James Webb reveals Chariklo's mysterious rings are changing faster than expected

So here's something really exciting - the James Webb Space Telescope has caught Chariklo's rings doing something scientists didn't expect. This tiny object, only about 250 kilometers across and orbiting between Saturn and Uranus, was discovered to have rings back in 2013, but we always thought they were pretty stable. Now JWST observations from 2022 compared with earlier data show that these rings are actually changing quite dramatically - the inner ring is getting denser while the outer ring is getting less dense. What this tells us is that these ring systems around small bodies are way more dynamic and complex than we previously assumed, and they can evolve on surprisingly short timescales.
