Lost pages of a priceless Henry VIII manuscript have finally surfaced

After 600 years, six missing pages from a rare copy of Nicholas Love's Mirror of the Blessed Life of Jesus Christ have been discovered, completing a crucial piece of Tudor history. The manuscript once belonged to John Gage, a powerful enforcer in Henry VIII's court who oversaw the dissolution of monasteries, yet kept this religious text rather than destroying it - a telling sign of the religious tensions tearing through the Tudor period. The lost pages, which describe Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead, got separated when the book's binding came loose during a past repair, and they ended up hiding in plain sight within a collection of estate records. Researchers James Wade and Katie Walter realized the loose leaves matched the incomplete manuscript at Yale's Beinecke Library by comparing dimensions, annotations, and handwriting styles, revealing a fascinating window into one man's conflicted faith during England's most turbulent religious transformation.
