Bats may have first evolved in Europe 65 million years ago

So: new research is shaking up what we thought about bat origins. It turns out bats probably first evolved in Europe around 65 million years ago, not Africa or Asia as some suggested. An international team combined genome data from every bat family with fossil evidence to build a detailed family tree. And here's the thing - this work shows that powered flight and echolocation appeared early in bat evolution, helping them spread worldwide.
