Here’s the thing: plants are always growing, but their movements were far too slow for the eye to catch. More than a century ago, Indian physicist Jagadish Chandra Bose created the crescograph, using sensitive mechanical and optical systems to magnify tiny movements up to 10,000 times, while later magnetic versions reportedly reached millions. The instrument let researchers record plant growth and study how plants responded to light, temperature, chemicals and touch. So, Bose turned an almost invisible process into something measurable, opening a fascinating new path for plant science.
