New lizard species discovered at extreme heights in the peruvian andes

I just read about something truly fascinating happening high up in the Peruvian Andes. Scientists have managed to identify a brand new lizard species, Liolaemus arequipensis, which had been hiding in plain sight for quite a while. It turns out that these little creatures look so similar to their neighbors that it took some serious DNA work and scale counting to tell them apart. And here's the thing - they are perfectly adapted to survive in the extreme cold at altitudes of nearly 5,000 meters. It really makes you wonder what other hidden gems are waiting to be found in those mountains.
