Scientists reprogram immune cells inside the body to fight cancer

CAR-T therapy can be remarkably effective against some blood cancers, but making it is costly and can take weeks. Now, researchers have developed a way to deliver gene-editing tools and cancer-fighting instructions directly to T cells inside the body. In tests with mice carrying humanized immune systems, the approach showed promise against leukemia, multiple myeloma and a solid tumor. If it can be adapted for people, it could make these therapies quicker and easier to access, while potentially reducing the need for intensive preparatory treatment.
